Talk title: Look me in the eyes – or not?
Abstract: Abnormal eye contact is frequent in autism spectrum disorder. In this talk, I will present data supporting the hypothesis that an imbalance between the excitatory and the inhibitory systems (E/I) in infancy results in eye contact avoidance and abnormal development of the social brain, and present exciting preliminary studies showing how reestablishing the E/I balance may help the core symptoms of autism.
